Aktie
Been to Amlou? This gourmet Berber cream, originally from southern Morocco, based on argan oil, almonds and honey . Very simple to prepare and with many virtues, it goes without saying that this recipe will make you completely addicted.
In terms of diffusion, the amlou is the favorite of the Moroccans. For breakfast, afternoon tea or mint tea, it is spread on bread, pancakes, homemade msemen or baghrir. In addition to its deliciously sweet honey flavor, amlou has many benefits. Indeed, argan oil is very rich in vitamin E, an important antioxidant. Almonds, on the other hand, are one of the healthy foods par excellence. They are rich in fiber, protein, but also in antioxidants, such as honey.
How to make amlou at home?
Ingredients
For a jar of amlou, about 250 g:
150 g of whole almonds
60ml of argan oil
40 g of honey
Recipe
Preheat the oven to 160°C before toasting the almonds for 10 minutes. These must have a golden color inside, without being burnt.
Once out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes then blend the toasted almonds until you get a creamy paste. To finish, we gradually add the argan oil and then the honey, mixing generously until the mixture is smooth. That's it, your amlou is ready!
How can I personalize the amlou?
One of the many advantages of preparing your own homemade spreadable cream is obviously the customization of the latter. For example, to change the texture of your amlou, simply adjust the amount of argan oil used: the more there is, the less thick the paste will be. You can also mix different types of nuts, using hazelnuts or peanuts in addition to almonds. Finally, why not flavor your amlou with cinnamon or cardamom?
How to store your homemade amlou?
Like any spread, homemade amlou can easily be stored in a tightly closed box. It can be stored in a cool, dry place, protected from light or simply in the refrigerator. Before tasting, remember to mix everything because the oil often tends to rise to the surface.
